A network for new and aspiring library professionals

LILAC, InfoLit and NLPN

The team are very excited about a trip to Sheffield tomorrow where we will be running a teach meet at this year’s LILAC conference.

Information Literacy is central both to our day jobs, and to many aspects of NLPN. Our recognition of how important IL would be to our professional lives led to the development of the network; the NLPN team identified this as an area where we lacked practical insight and experience, and decided to do something about it! We were lucky to have Rosie Jones and Emily Shields share their practitioner experience with us in our first two events, and we have been able to apply much of what they imparted into our workplace practice, and our own professional development. In the day job, many of us strive to help develop independent, life-long learners who can deftly manage information in any context, transforming it into knowledge and expertise; we hope this carries over into our training events and our virtual connections. As a team, we certainly feel that our understanding of IL and our related practice has been heightened through the insight provided by the experienced professionals at our events (and beyond), and even through the processes involved with maintaining the network and facilitating events. You can read our abstract here

Amy and Catherine will be tweeting throughout the day, but make sure you follow #lilac14 to benefit from the best insights. The LILAC website also has a great archive, where you can access many of the presentations from previous conferences.
