A network for new and aspiring library professionals

Interview: Sarah Mallen – Careers Information Manager

Careers librarianship is somewhat of an unknown quantity, for me at least. However, the more I think about it the more it makes sense for a librarian to be involved in the careers advice process. After all, finding out information about possible career choices utilises the same information literacy skills as finding resources to answer an assignment or finding evidence to assist healthcare decision-making. Collection management skills are similarly transferable, no matter the content of the collection.

One of our network aims is to highlight lesser-known career paths for librarians so we approached Sarah Mallen, who is an Information Manager at the University of Manchester’s Careers service. Luckily Sarah had a blogpost she’d prepared earlier, which you can find here.

If there’s an area of librarianship you’re keen to know more about, and think others would too, let us know and we can try to find someone to answer a few questions here on the blog!
