We are always on the lookout for free events for new professionals, especially ones with practical CPD opportunities so we were delighted to see the announcement of LISDIS2015. Rosie has shared some more information about the upcoming conference with us…
LISDIS (or Library and Information Science Dissertations in full) is a brand new conference where recent graduates of LIS courses can share their dissertation research with a wider audience. The conference aims to get LIS graduates, whose research covers a wide range of topics, sharing their findings and discussing this relatively untapped evidence base.
The idea came after several of us (Michelle, Jess, Rosie and Emily) watched Lyn Denny present her research on picture books and gender at the NLPN and CILIP YH ‘Get Career Ready’ event. It was a really interesting presentation and got us thinking about how much brilliant LIS research there is sitting on people’s shelves and hard drives, and how the profession could benefit from this extra evidence being shared. It seems such a shame that people work for months on this research only for them to be read by a couple of examiners and then shelved. We also wanted to provide an opportunity for New Professionals to work on their presenting skills in a friendly environment. We have had some excellent papers submitted so far and would like to see as wide a range of presenters and topics as possible. So, if you have some dissertation research which has been completed since 2012 and has not been presented or published elsewhere please consider submitting a presentation or poster!
We are also really excited to have Emma Coonan coming along to give a keynote talk on how to publish a journal article. Emma is Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Information Literacy so is in a perfect position to talk about the publishing process and how to maximise the exposure of published articles.
LISDIS is on 14th November 2015, at The Heritage Quay, University of Huddersfield and tickets are free. We look forward to seeing you there!
